Welcome to the Maria ‘Domitilla’ Hyams née Rota and Daniel ‘Danny’ George Hyams Cause website.
This site is dedicated to spreading knowledge about Domitilla and Danny Hyams whose cause for beatification and canonization was opened by His Grace Archbishop Buti Joseph Tlhagale OMI of the Archdiocese of Johannesburg, South Africa in 2018.
As founders of LITTLE EDEN Society, a non-profit Society dedicated to the care of persons with intellectual disabilities in 1967, Danny and Domitilla also provided an inspiring example of their committed family life and marriage raising their six children. Both strove for holiness by living out the Christian virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity. Assisted by divine grace and living in God’s presence, they imbued their ordinary daily activities with selflessness love serving the most marginalised of society. Holy Mass, the Rosary and daily prayer were central throughout their lives. Both died in Edenvale, Johannesburg with a reputation of holiness.

Standing events: Spiritual development and growth for all was very dear to the founders of LITTLE EDEN. “These little ones with an empty, vague stare, due to their abnormality, their souls are more beautiful than bright sunshine, pure as the snow, shining like diamonds in the rays of the sun. They are angels, they are the most beautiful, they are our lightning conductors and we must protect them with veneration because these beautiful souls are our angels. God creator could have created them normal; there must be a reason that we cannot see and we accept this as a sign of His predilection. ”
Domitilla – Diary Extracts
Servant of God: Maria ‘Domitilla’ Hyams née Rota
The Domitilla diaries are important and critical documents in attesting to the fact that she, together with her husband, Daniel ‘Danny’ George Hyams, lived a life of heroic virtue. This biographical profile shows how Domitilla lived a life of service to the most marginalised and, more importantly, a holy life in the footsteps and service of Our Lord and the Madonna.
Servant of God: Daniel George Hyams
Danny was not a prolific writer and hence left very little original material from his pen. Being a chartered accountant by profession, one who would always remain in the background, a reserved, deeply religious and chivalrous human being whose concern was always for the ‘other’ his documentation was mostly limited to his professional work and the secretarial and legal documentation associated with LITTLE EDEN Society which he co-founded with his wife Maria ‘Domitilla’ Hyams née Rota.
